ASUS Republic of Gamers (ROG) has announced the ROG Ally X, an enhanced model of its popular handheld game console, now available for pre-order in Australia and through the ASUS E-shop and major retailers.
The ROG Ally X is designed for gaming on the go with Windows 11 and features significant upgrades over its predecessor. It includes the same AMD Ryzen™ Z1 Extreme processor but offers improved storage, RAM, battery life, and an updated chassis for better ergonomics, cooling, and connectivity. The new model is also integrated with Armoury Crate SE 1.5, providing a customizable game library and unified system updates.
Bradley Howe, Head of Consumer, Systems Business Group, ASUS Australia, expressed enthusiasm about the launch, stating,
“We’re excited to launch the new ROG Ally X in Australia and New Zealand after receiving overwhelmingly positive feedback from users on the ROG Ally last year. We have continued to listen to our customers’ feedback, resulting in the new ROG Ally X, which offers great improvements to battery, thermal cooling and storage. We are delighted that this best-in-class handheld console will now be available for individuals looking for a powerful yet portable on-the-go gaming experience.”
Key upgrades of the ROG Ally X include:
- Storage: A 1 TB SSD, up from 512 GB, with an M.2 2280 form factor slot for easier upgrades.
- RAM: 24 GB of LPDDR5X-7500 RAM, allowing better allocation of memory for system and GPU performance in modern games.
- Battery: An 80 Wh battery, double the previous model’s capacity, for extended gaming sessions.
- Design: A new black chassis with improved ergonomics, including deeper handles and more rounded shapes for comfort. The buttons and sticks are ergonomically angled, with stiffer joystick springs and a more precise D-Pad.
- Connectivity: Two USB-C ports, one Thunderbolt-compatible, replacing the original XG Mobile port for wider interoperability.
- Cooling: New, smaller fans with thinner blades and an additional exhaust vent, improving airflow and cooling efficiency.
The ROG Ally X weighs 678 grams, only 70 grams more than its predecessor, with a balanced weight distribution for more comfortable use.
The ROG Ally X is available for pre-order in Australia starting June 2 at 7:00 pm AEST through the ASUS E-shop and JB Hi-Fi, priced at AUD $1,599. The console will be available on shelves from July 22.
